Although the oil industry has typically dominated Tulsa's economy, efforts in attempting to diversify the economy in Tulsa have created a solid base in the areas of aerospace, finance, technology, telecommunications, high tech, and manufacturing.
A number of large financial corporations are headquartered in Tulsa, the largest being the BOK Financial Corporation, which acts as the governing company to the Bank of Oklahoma, the Bank of Texas, the Bank of Arkansas,the Bank of Albuquerque, the Bank of Arizona, Colorado State Bank and Trust, and the Bank of Kansas City.
Also, two Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. ONEOK, a natural gas distributor, and Williams Companies is another natural gas producing company.
